I am the first and only guest in the not yet opened Hotel, The Westin, Hamburg in the new emblem of the city: in the Elbphilharmonie. Which view should I paint: The one from the Horizon Suite, the Panorama Suite, the Owner’s Suite, or the Maisonette Suite? I decide for the view from two floors, because the extensiveness seems to be at its broadest point here. It is the view towards the east, of the Speicherstadt and the Harbor City. I can see the Elbe Bridges in the distance and I remember that particular day in which I drove over these bridges and into Hamburg, and enfold the harbor into my arms. The numerous, small details of the city and the harbor appear to me like a swarm. The hotel named the suite correctly: “View with a room.” While I am putting the essence onto my canvas, it is an honor to greet media representatives and the hotel management. I would love to go into the next room and paint the all of the views from there, because here above the harbor, my heart is thumping with joy.

Ich bin der erste und einzige Gast im noch nicht eröffneten Hotel The Westin Hamburg im neuen Wahrzeichen der Stadt: in der Elbphilharmonie. Welchen Blick soll ich bloß malen: Den aus der Horizont Suite, der Panorama Suite, der Eigner Suite, der Maisonette Suite? Ich entscheide mich für den Blick aus zwei Etagen, denn hier scheint mir die Weite am weitesten. Es ist der Blick gen Osten, auf Speicherstadt und Hafencity. In der Ferne sehe ich die Elbbrücken und ich erinnere mich an jenen besonderen Tag, als ich das erste Mal über diese Brücken nach Hamburg hineinfahre und mich der Hafen in die Arme schließt. Wie in einem Wimmelbild erscheinen mir die vielen kleinen Details der Stadt und des Hafens, vom Hotel zurecht als „Ausblick mit Zimmer“ benannt. Während ich die Essenz auf meine Leinwand bringe, ist es mir eine Ehre, Medienvertreter und Hotelmanagement zu empfangen. Gern würde ich in das nächste Zimmer weiterziehen und alle anderen Ausblicke malen, denn hier hoch über dem Hafen hüpft mein Herz vor Glück.
