This harbor panorama fits best on an extreme rectangular format. Actually, it pulls me out onto the huge roof terrace of a small, 6-room hotel to paint, but the weather changes my plans: It is an icy cold February in Hamburg. Despite the pouring rain, the view from my room cannot be more perfect. It seems as if one could dive into the depths of the lights of the sea and melt together with the magic of the harbor. The Köhlbrand Bridge lies in the distance. The otherwise usual dynamic blinking, shining and twinkling shows itself in stoic placidness today. I paint through half the night. The next morning, the harbor is wearing a new dress: it is lying there clear as glass and lit up from the morning sun, and I feel I immediately need to paint a new picture. And a new picture will come: The view from the next hotel room into which I will move. The feeling I get while the rain whips against the windowpanes and the colors blend through my fingers will stay on my canvas forever.

Dieses Hafenpanorama passt am Besten auf ein extremes Querformat. Eigentlich zieht es mich zum Malen hinaus auf die gigantisch große Dachterrasse des kleinen 6-Zimmer-Hotels, doch das Wetter ändert meine Pläne: Es ist eiskalter Februar in Hamburg. Trotz strömenden Regens kann der Blick aus meinem Fenster perfekter nicht sein. Es scheint, als könne man von hier aus bis auf den Grund des Lichtermeeres tauchen und mit der Magie des Hafens verschmelzen. Die Köhlbrandbrücke liegt in der Ferne. Das sonst vertraute dynamische Blinken, Funkeln und Aufblitzen zeigt sich heute in stoischer Gelassenheit. Die halbe Nacht male ich hindurch. Am nächsten Morgen trägt der Hafen ein neues Kleid: glasklar und von der Morgensonne erleuchtet liegt er da und ich habe sofort das Bedürfnis, ein neues Bild zu malen. Es wird ein neues Bild geben: der Blick aus dem nächsten Hotelzimmer, in das ich weiterziehen werde. Das Gefühl, während der Regen gegen die Fensterscheiben peitscht und zwischen meinen Fingern die Farben verlaufen, bleibt für immer auf meiner Leinwand verewigt.
